On production “The Last of Us,” the exclusive documentary interview with Ruggero Deodato and Sergio Martino.
“The Last of Us“, a documentary film that tells the stories that shaped the personal and artistic lives of Sergio Martino and Ruggero Deodato, is now in production. Two directors who have represented Italian genre cinema in the world, earning the esteem of directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Eli Roth, and Tim Burton.
After the success of Luca Guadagnino, awarded at Venice 79 with the Silver Lion for directing for the cannibal love story “Bones and all,” we return to talk about the cannibal movie genre with Ruggero Deodato, the director of the cult “Cannibal Holocaust,” considered by many as the best product of the genre and with ” The Slaughter” a new horror movie that pays homage to cult films such as “Anthropophagus” directed by Joe D’Amato.
Deodato was the first pioneer of cannibal movies. Cannibal Holocaust was also the first film to use the “fake documentary” technique, that is, the use of scenes filmed through an amateur video camera following the protagonists, a technique that due to its extreme realism was later used for titles ranging from horror to science fiction, including the Cloverfield series of films.
The Last of Us will be presented at Mia Market 2022, in Rome Oct. 11-15, 2022, along with Anthropophagus 2. Variety Distribution will be present with its own booth at Palazzo Barberini and with a virtual booth on the MIA portal.
